In this project the brief required an effective solution to storm water drainage, which previously caused issues at the entry door due to the shape and fall of the land.

Under the timber decking at the front door, a large pit was incorporated with a concrete catchment, connected to existing 100mm storm water pipes. In addition to the pit, large strip drains were incorporated in the driveway paving, to catch most of the run off.

Additionally, the front door was to be pointed out more clearly. This was achieved by using the Castlemain slate as a path leading toward the front door. It was then surrounded by honed bluestone pavers laid on a mortar bed and a reinforced concrete slab.

For this project, the front driveway and entry terrace were widened to allow easier and safer car access and to provide an opportunity to place a small seating arrangement to enable the enjoyment of the front garden. The front garden was then also re-designed and re-planted in a rustic English style cottage theme incorporating a stepping stone path leading across the front lawn to the front door.

A couple, she an interior designer and him and architect, both deigned and built their own home in Hampton. The garden was then added, also designed by them and executed by Wieben Landscapes. The photos more or less explain themselves:

An Italian background required a Tuscan theme. This house was not finished until the backyard had been redesigned to reflect the Italian heritage of its owners. A central water feature, surrounded by Sandstone crazy paving and Roman walling as well as ornamental vines and Olive trees completed the overall atmosphere of this house. This series of photos again shows the project from start to finish and incorporated Spotted Gum Timber seating and fencing.
